Manager Unai Emery has named his squad for Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion tonight.
Villa need a win tonight at Molineux to avoid closing the gap behind them in the battle for the Champions League places. The pressure is on and it’s time for the team to show what they’ve got.
Emery has made three changes from the team that started last Saturday’s draw against Leeds United in the Premier League, but remains confident with Ollie Watkins up front.
That means no start for Tammy Abraham, who sits on the bench with Alysson. The Brazilian winger returns from injury at Molineux.
Three substitutions for Villa against Wolves
Emery has opted to switch the left side of the Villa defense. Pau Torres returns to the starting XI in place of Tyrone Mings, while Lucas Digne gets the nod at left back.
Ian Maatsen drops to the bench, as does winger Leon Bailey. Jadon Sancho comes into the team in one of the more predictable changes of the season.
While Sancho’s inclusion isn’t much of a surprise, Watkins’ continued selection up front was predictable but will be met with disagreement – mine, for starters. We hope Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer can rediscover some of what makes Emery trust him in the first place.
