Aston Villa team news as Unai Emery makes TWO changes for the Premier League match against Manchester City

Manager Unai Emery has named his squad for Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Manchester City this afternoon.

Villa have made two changes from the starting XI that kicked off the win against Tottenham Hotspur a week ago, with Emi Buendía taking the nod ahead of Evann Guessand and Ollie Watkins keeping his place up front after returning to the line-up against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday.

Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash are back in the squad after being named as substitutes in Deventer, while Lucas Digne returns after missing out on the Europa League due to the cut on his ankle following a challenge with Spurs defender Kevin Danso last weekend.

John McGinn starts as captain and is likely to support Amadou Onana and Boubacar Kamara as well as he plays higher up with Buendía, Watkins and Morgan Rogers.

Where’s Harvey Elliott?

Amid rumors of a return to Liverpool, attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott has been left out of the squad entirely this afternoon.

No doubt that will be clarified after the game, either honestly or a little mischievously, but his absence does not detract from the indication that his future at Villa will be long or positive.

You better believe I’ll be completely over it if that turns out to be the case. It’s bizarre and I don’t like it at all.

Villa’s attacking unit will be led by Watkins today, with a combination of Rogers, Buendía and McGinn behind him. That would be easy to predict against weaker opposition, but there will certainly be no settled front four against City at Villa Park this afternoon.
