Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 3 – Saturday 14 February 2026 5.45pm
Where do you start?
A match where EVERYTHING went against Newcastle United and yet Eddie Howe and his team won!!!
It was horrible to watch the first 62 minutes.
The match officials and the lack of use of VAR create an incredibly extreme sense of injustice.
Tammy Abraham’s ‘goal’ was clearly offside, but stood.
An absolutely shocking, reckless attack from Digne on Jacob Murphy, a red card even earlier, but only awarded a yellow card.
Then a hand in the air blocked a cross from the Villa defender, who stood yards inside the penalty area and only saw a free kick awarded OUTSIDE the penalty area.
You try not to think the world is against you, BUT if VAR was in operation the goal would have been disallowed, the Villa player sent off and a penalty awarded.
Even though it is a Premier League stadium with all VAR options available, instead the crazy league rules mean that VAR is not used in this game.
That it came so quickly after that brow-beating offside claim that prevented Willock’s ‘goal’ at Spurs on Tuesday made it beyond belief.
Fortunately, justice was served in the end.
Tonali with two excellent goals and Big Nick finished them off.
Bizot had been sent off at the end of the first half, even the useless officials and the absence of VAR could not miss that horrific attack on Jacob Murphy (again!).
United through to the fifth round of the FA Cup and more than fully deserved.
