Throughout the year I regularly answer questions about money and/or budgeting. If you have a question, you would like to answer in a coming post, submit it here.

This week’s question is:

I watched part -time work that I could do from home as an additional income for our family. My husband and I both work full time, we have two children (one who has special needs), and we try to get out of debts. I would like to find something that I could do from home a few hours a week to help with this. I love reading and I have skills in test reading and editing, so if I could find something in these lines, that would be great. I have done some research, and to be honest it is difficult to know where to start looking. I want to be sure
To go with something that is legitimate, but struggles to find the right one. I just wondered if you have insight into this? “-Carey M.

You can earn money from home

I am so happy that you had contact, Carey! First of all, I just want to say that I fully understand where you come from. So many mothers find themselves exactly where you are: juggling with multiple responsibilities, wanting to earn extra money and not know for sure where to start.

The good news? You absolutely can Find something flexible, satisfactory and legitimate. And based on what you have shared, you are already more qualified than you think!

Let’s split this a bit.

You don’t have to have it all sorted out – just start!

It is completely normal to feel insecure in the beginning. There are so many options, and it is difficult to know what is legitimate. But if you can give yourself permission to start small and take step by step, you will start to see your doors open.

You said you enjoy reading and to read and edit skills. That’s a fantastic basis! There are entire industries that depend on people with an eye for detail and a love of language:

  • Freelance test reading and editing
  • Transcription
  • Virtual assistant work (which often includes content or e -mail test reading)
  • Assess blog or social media – content

These are all roles that you can do from home and scale up (or down), depending on your availability.

Start with what you can do (not what you have to “know”)

You (or someone else reading this) can think: I have no formal training. Who would hire me? But here is the thing: many opportunities for work and at home do not require a chic resume.

They require people who are:

  • Trustworthy
  • Communicative
  • Organized
  • Willing to learn

That sounds like Youright?

In fact in my Work-of-home blueprint courseWe talk about how so many women disqualify themselves before they even start. But the skills you used to educate a child with special needs, to manage a household and work full -time are all tradable skills. They show that you are responsible and attentive to detail, and that you can process pressure. Employers Love That!

Be strategic with your time

Because your time is so limited, you focus on options that are flexible and do not require large use of time in advance. Some ideas to explore:

  • Become a member of freelance platforms pretend Upwork” Fiverror Trialreaderservices.com To offer your editing skills
  • Please contact bloggers or small companies that may need part -time processing or test reading
  • Search for transcription work from companies such as Overhaul” Writingor Transcrib for me
  • Consider starting a side Self -published authors or online course makers test reading (there is a growing need here!)

You don’t have to commit yourself up to 20 hours a week. Even only 3-5 hours can help the needle financially.

Do you want a clear step -by -step plan?
