Pakistan kept their super four expectations alive with a victory of five wicket over Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. After a tough defeat against India, the party led by Salman Agha needed a victory to stay in the race for the final.
Pakistan bundled Sri Lanka for only 133 points in the first innings. Shaheen Afridi led the load with three wickets, including two in the powerplay.
Kamindu Mendis stood out with a fighting half century and helped his team to place a total that was modest but competitive.
Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat each picked up two wickets for Pakistan. Abrar Ahmed took the headlines with his celebration after rejecting Wanindu Hasaranga for 15, copying Hasaranga’s own trademark movement.
The spinners of Sri Lanka fought back in the second innings. Hasaranga took a wonderful catch to send Saim Ayub back and later received revenge on Abrar with a playful party.
Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana each grabbed two wickets, delayed Pakistan’s chase and put pressure on them.
At one point Pakistan looked into trouble, but Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz have put together an essential partnership to send their team to victory.
With this result, the chances of Sri Lanka to reach the Asia Cup final are now very slim.
