Asia Cup 2025: Sri Lankan players wear black bracelets, observe a minute of silence as a tribute to Dunith Wellalage’s deceased father against Bangladesh

Prior to competition No. 1 of the Super-Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025, the Sri Lankan players showed a praise spirit of solidarity while wearing black bracelets and took a minute of silence to pay tribute to Dunith Wellalage’s Late father, Suranga. The silence of one minute was observed before the national anthem in honor of Suranga, who was against Afghanistan against Afghanistan on Thursday 18 September during Sri Lanka’s collision.

Sri Lanka is confronted with Bangladesh in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to start the super-four stage of the continental competition. Wellalage has received enormous support from the cricket brotherhood during this difficult phase of his life.

The Spin-Bowling Allrounder left the Sri Lankan camp and attended his father’s funeral before he came with the team on Friday. He is mentioned in the Playing XI for the important match against Bangladesh.

Wellalage has played 31 ODIs and five T20is for Sri Lanka. The match against Afghanistan was his first performance in the Asia Cup 2025.

Bangladesh Peg Sri Lanka back with Wickets

Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the pitch and chose to first bowl. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis brought the 2022 champions to a flying start and added 44 points in five overs. However, the first was fired for a 15-ball 22.

Kusal Mendis looked in sublime touch and scored 34 of 25 balls, but his innings were demolished by Mahedi Hasan. Kamil Mishara only succeeded five runs on 11 deliveries. Kusal Perera, on the other hand, left for a Run-A ball 16.

The responsibility is only on Dasun Shanaka and Captain Charith Asalanka to bring Sri Lanka to a big score. They are placed on 115/4 at the end of 15 overs. Shanaka left to 35 on just 21 balls, while Asalanka just starts.

Sri Lanka still has a lot of batting in the tank, such as Kamindu Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellage waiting to come in.
