Since India mentioned a team of 15 men in September for the upcoming Asia cup, part of the cricket brotherhood has made some of the unexpected decisions of the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. One of the biggest points has been the in-shape Shreyas Iyer’s absence of the side. The Mumbai Slagman has not even succeeded in finding a place among the five spare players who have been chosen for the continental affair.
Former India test captain Ajinkya Rahane said that Shreyas really should be stripped after he has missed the selection of the Asia Cup team, even after scoring Runs consistently for Mumbai and Punjab Kings in White-Ball Cricket.
“I am sure that he (Shreyas Iyer) really must be disappointed in view of the type of IPL he had. It was a fantastic season. Even in the domestic cricket, especially in the 50-over format, he has performed really well when they get opportunities. I can fully understand the team management’s position.
After choosing the team, the main selector Ajit Agarkar and Captain Suryakumar Yadav spoke to the press. The former India Pacer was asked to leave Shreyas out of the side. He said it was a shame that the Mumbai stroke should be omitted, but the selectors only had to choose 15 players and they couldn’t fit him.
“In terms of Shreyas it is a shame again. You tell me who he can replace in this team. It is not his fault, nor ours, it is only that there can only be 15, and at the moment he has to wait for his chances,” Agarkar explained.
Shreyas Iyer will be part of the T20 format in the future: Rahane
Rahane believes that in the near future Shreyas will make a comeback to the T20 side. The 37-year-old hopes that the selectors have had clear communication with Shreyas about their plans in which he was involved in T20-Cricket.
“The only thing I want to see and I want to know that good communication from Selectors and Team Management with Shreyas. He is an important member of the team and I am sure that he will also be part of the T20 format in the coming years or in the future. So communication is the key to the SHRYAS Iyer selectors,” he added.
Shreyas had a brilliant season for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, because he gained 604 points of 17 games on an average of 50.33 and a success rate of 175.07. He only became the second captain who led Punjab to the IPL final.
