Sunil Gavaskar urged Indian team management to select Sanja Samson In India, XI plays during the approaching Asia cup. Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two Wicketkeeper batters that were picked in the India team for the eight-team tournament.
Samson is a permanent starter for India in T20i Cricket after Gautam Gambhir had taken on the role of head coach. In 14 T20is under Gambhir, the Kerala seizure collected more than 400 runs, including three centuries. With Shubman Gill who returns to the T20i setup and is also named vice-captain, there is a cloud of uncertainty about the place of Samson in the side, because the Punjab-Settlag is likely to open the batting because of his success from that position in the Indian Premier League.
Gavaskar, however, believes that the fall of Samson would be a mistake. He suggested that management should consider using Samson’s versatility, either at number 3 or lower in the order.
“If you take someone like Sanju Samson in the core team, you can’t omit him in the reserves,” Gavaskar said that India would say today prior to the continental competition.
“Yes, I think it is a very good headache for a selection committee that you have two capable batters and someone like Sanju Samson who may even hit three and if necessary comes down at six o’clock as a finisher. And Jites also did well in the recently concluded IPL, where he plays the Tour,” I think it is a pleasant selection.
Samson will probably get the kink for Jitesh for at least the first few games: Gavaskar
Gavaskar also believes that Samson Jitesh would go for the first two games in the tournament for Jitesh.
“But my feeling is that Samson may probably get the kink for Jitesh for at least the first few games. And then, depending on what his shape is for the rest of the tournament. But this is what I think that will happen,” Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar also believes that there may be a possibility to have Samson Bat at number 3, with Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to follow.
“But that’s why I think they might even think in terms of having him (Samson) at number three and Tilak as Finisher to have five or six. Because Hardik (Pandya) is also in your team. So, Hardik is likely to hit five or six again.”
