The star rounder made a comeback to test cricket during the five-match series between India and England, which ended earlier this month. In the fifth and final test match in the Oval, Woakes disrupted his shoulder after trying to prevent a ball from going to the border.

The 36-year-old was unable to bowling in the high-voltage meeting, but he showed praise and determination on day 5 of the test match when he walked outside to hit number 11, with his left arm in a sling.

After the test match, Woakes said that he weighed whether he should concentrate on rehabilitation or opted for surgery. However, he was recently seen on the sidelines of the hundred, not wearing a pendulum for support. This was a positive indication given by the born Birmingham, which suggests that his injury is not as bad as it was seen as the first impression. Woakes also confirmed that he is not going to go the operating route yet, because he will try to get better by Rehab.

“Certainly good news for me. That is the best way to look at it. Of course from the pendulum and I feel that I can move it much better now, which is two weeks later,” said Woakes as he spoke with Sky Sports.

“I suppose that once you have a little more movement in it, it feels a bit more normal. But there is still a lot of work to do. I will try to stay focused on rehabilitation and get it as strong as possible. Ideally, I am ideally not needed any operation for now, but we will see how that goes and hopefully we can get it nice and strong,” he added it.

Woakes finished with 11 wickets from five tests in the series against India at an average of 52.18. Although he was not at his best, his experience will be crucial for England, because they want to regain the prestigious Ashes urn for the first time since 2018.
