Crawley, in an interaction with reporters ahead of the New Year’s Test, reiterated that England have one playing philosophy regardless of the result and they have no plans to change that ahead of the SCG match. So have Todd Murphyor any other bowler, would not mean that the English are preparing to play with a new approach.
“Whoever is playing, I think that’s the mantra of our team, is to try to put pressure on people. Todd is a very good bowler, but I would imagine we try to put some pressure on him, as we would with any of their bowlers. That comes with risks, and if it goes in the right direction it will certainly be a threat,” Crawley told Cricbuzz.
To those unfamiliar, Murphy has since risen to prominence Nathan Lyon was ruled out of the Ashes due to a hamstring injury during the Third Test at the Adelaide Oval. He was unable to take further part in the match after pulling his hamstring early on Day 2, and was subsequently ruled out of cricket for an indefinite, but lengthy period.
Murphy will look to make his mark in the final game of the series as he has all the freedom in the world to express himself with the Aussies already leading 3-1. England, on the other hand, will look to break down the off-spinner attack, making it a mouth-watering contest between the two in an epic series finale.
