Carey recalled how England had overturned a similar England deficit in the 2023 match to eventually level the series. However, he revealed that Australia were looking forward to possibly sealing the series by winning the next match.
“We know England are a very good team. We also understand that a few years ago in England we were in a position like this. We couldn’t win that series but we were good enough to retain the Ashes. We are very excited about the opportunity we have but we understand we have to keep playing good cricket,” Carey said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The 34-year-old complimented Australia for adapting to different scenarios in the two matches so far. He again mentioned that there won’t be any drop in intensity in the near future when it comes to battling their arch-rivals.
“We’re not looking too far ahead either. I think this group of players have been able to adapt really well, really stay present and again find ways to improve. We all know the threats that England bring, but if we can focus on being our best, that’s a good way to do that. We’re definitely not taking our foot off the accelerator,” he added.
Australia have managed to keep their unbeaten record intact against England in the home Tests after the last defeat during the 2010-11 series. They will look to extend their streak as they battle it out for the third match at the Adelaide Oval from December 17.
Talking about Carey’s performance so far, he scored 26 and 63 in the two matches. He has achieved twelve overtakes with the gloves so far. His wicketkeeping while coming to the stumps in the pink-ball encounter with Michael Neser won widespread admiration.
