Brydon Carse takes the big fish
The atmosphere at the Adelaide Oval on Day 1 of the 3rd Ashes Test was thick with tension. England, trailing 0-2 in the series, knew they needed a dominant performance, especially with the ball, to have any chance of regaining the coveted urn. After Jofra Sagittarius delivered an early shock by firing Jake Weatheraldthe pressure was great Brydon Carse to keep the momentum going against a dangerous Travis Head. What followed was a moment of individual brilliance that temporarily overshadowed the broader struggle.
Zak Crawley takes a brilliant catch to dismiss Travis Head
It was the 10th over of the Australian innings. Carse delivered a wide half-volley and invited Head to unleash his trademark power through the offside. Head obliged, hitting the ball with considerable force, aiming for the boundary ropes between cover and point. For a split second it seemed destined for four.
However, Crawley was stationed on short cover and had other ideas. In a display of incredible reflexes and athleticism, the usually elegant opener twisted his tall body and dived low and sharply to the left. His right hand reached out, almost impossibly, and latched onto the hard-hit ball, just inches from the turf. It was an instinctive one-handed grab that defied the speed and trajectory of Head’s shot.
