Stay around until the end to find out why the dishwasher will not close completely.
In today’s edition:
- The large WP migration dreams from Tumblr are just as disappointing as the ball pit at Dashcon.
- WordPress 6.8.2 RC1 is live: let the bug-stupid start.
- We casually bend on Eeeeeeeeeeeeeëverying that we sent in 2025. Nbd.
Hot from the presses: what’s new?
Isn’t this “Shameanantic versioning” how everyone counts their releases?
Those figures at the end are definitely the “haha ooops …” figures, right?
As long as your version number does not start to see as an IP address, you are still good.
Anyway, welcome to DEV! We are now on edition #25 of this newsletter, but if we count Fixes shame, whew, God only knows. 😅
Let’s dive into what’s new in WordPress!
Tumblr’s migration to WordPress? It is complicated.
Think of a long time ago in the innocent days of September 2024, when we reported on the plan to pack Tumblr’s Jensen Ackles Dorst-Gifs, Thoughts on designing children in the children’s hospital And Dark Academia Moodboards and move them everywhere in the WordPress?
Well, not so fast.
According to Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg, the migration of Tumblr is now on hold for an indefinite period. So much for the Shackleton inspired “dangerous journey”Filled with” constant danger “, huh?
The reason? A mix of shifting priorities and, let’s really be, the enormous complexity of moving a 16-year social blog platform to a modern CMS without breaking a million blogs that is run by dedicated Tumblrinas & Tumblringos.
The news fell further The decoder of the Verge podcastWhere Mullenweg explained that the team had originally hoped to Porten to Porten, which opened the possibility of a Fedivers-friendly rebuilding using the ActivityPub-in-in on WordPress.
“I still want to do it,” says Mullenweg. “But we are not working on it at the moment.”
So, Tumblr will remain tumblr for the time being and will not come to the Fediverse – unless, as Mullenweg says, “there was a big push to implement Fediverse”, in which case, “we would just do it on the Tumblr codebase.”
At the end of the day, users of Tumblr’s die-hard cohort of “Never Gonna Up up” will continue with their niche communities anyway.

Plus, a few classics to remind us why we love Tumblr:
WordPress 6.8.2 RC1: Ready to test!

This is a maintenance release and it is here to do not -glamorous work on crushing bugs, adjusting styles and letting things that are slightly better. If all goes well, the final release is planned to land July 15, 2025. Until then, the core team calls for developers to test, validate fixes and ensure that nothing breaks just before the launch.
In total it contains:
No flashy new functions here, only good polishing with a good quality of life to make things run smoothly.
Why does this matter? Because even the most elegant block editor can stumble over an unexpected problem, and these updates are the kind of silent, behind the scenes that keep everything behind the scenes that buzz everything (and your customer e-mails blissfully empty).
