As a Newcastle United fan I just wanted to say thank you Alexander Isak

Thank you Alexander Isak, from this Newcastle United fan.

What a fantastic time for all of us.

The Alexander Isak Newcastle United era began at Anfield with a goal and ended almost exactly three years later.

Despite scoring just six goals for Real Sociedad in 32 La Liga appearances in the 2021/22 season, Eddie Howe saw something.

Newcastle United’s brilliant boss believed he could turn an average to good striker into a striker who could score many goals for United if given the perfect set-up to get the most out of Alexander Isak.

The good/great times flowed and after three years at St James’ Park, Alexander Isak had helped Newcastle United win their first trophy in 56 years and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in twenty years, only to do the same two years later.

For all this I thank Alexander Isak, you played a full part in helping Eddie Howe and Newcastle United achieve that.

Thanks to you, the positive things keep flowing.

Eddie Howe convinced Newcastle United to pay £59 million (plus £4 million in possible future extras) and then Howe’s brilliance got you scoring all those goals that led to Liverpool paying £130 million for you three years later.

More than doubling what Newcastle paid for you, that £130m means much more than just that basic cash value for NUFC, as in the FFP/PSR world, that record fee paid by a Premier League club, so much more in terms of the flexibility to spend within the rules.

You can see that that base paid cash value for Nick Woltemade AND Yoane Wissa, which came in quite handy when Newcastle United needed to bring in two first-team strikers, with Callum Wilson also coming to the end of his days here.

However, the FFP/PSR benefit of that huge £130m fee means Newcastle United can spend a lot more on top of that base cash value, with the January 2026 transfer window hopefully seeing evidence of that.

So many great goals and wonderful memories in your time here, thanks again Alexander Isak.

All good things in the end…

Yes, all good things eventually come to an end.

I would also like to thank Alexander Isak, because you showed your true character, what really matters to you as a person.

It means that while I will always enjoy those three years and what happened on the pitch, I will not worship a false idol.

Alexander Isak, you really are a rat.

There were 101 ways you could have left Newcastle United and you chose to do it that way.

You have chosen to do everything you can to sabotage the 2025/26 season for Newcastle United.

You stabbed Eddie Howe, the man who forced you, in the back.

You refused to even train, let alone play football, for Newcastle United. All summer and the first part of the season, your greed meant that you were still earning a fortune in wages, money that the supporters pay to the club.

You were so desperate to get away from Newcastle United, but at the same time not desperate enough to make an official transfer request because it would have meant missing out on ‘loyalty money’ that would otherwise be owed from Newcastle United. This greed showed up despite going to Liverpool for £10 million a year and joining a club that had also shown its true colors all summer and behaved terribly.

Karma

In the early stages of summer, you acted like you weren’t going anywhere. Even happily starring in promotional videos and other push-ups for the new 2025/26 Newcastle United kits.

How many kids made their parents spend a fortune on new NUFC shirts with your name on them? While at the same time you secretly planned to abandon those children who worshiped you as a Toon idol.

Karma (a belief that intentions and actions cause and determine future experiences) has clearly struck now AND I’m not just talking about the broken leg you’re now stuck with.

The mantle of brilliance you wore at Newcastle United, thanks to Eddie Howe, had already been well and truly wiped away. Arne Slot had no idea what he wanted to do with you, other than take you away from Newcastle United, while at the same time unknowingly doing everything you could do to undermine your future career.

You had everything and now you have nothing apart from the £10 million annual salary. Even the fickle Liverpool fans turned on you and saw an often lazy striker who looked very mediocre and was rarely a goal threat. Was this really the same Alexander Isak who had turned him on so many times within the comfort zone of Eddie Howe and your NUFC teammates?

Yes, my (former) friend, Karma bit you in the backside and I think it will continue to do so.

I am confident that history will judge you in the future as someone who had so much success at Newcastle United and then became the biggest and most expensive flop in Premier League history when he joined Liverpool.

My guess is that after you recover from the leg break, Liverpool will last another season or half a season before being loaned out to a Serie A club or perhaps back in La Liga. No one will be able to afford to buy you, especially if there is no chance of you compromising on the six-year, £10 million per season contract that Liverpool agreed with you. Ultimately, Liverpool left Liverpool at the end of that six-year contract, £60 million richer, but much poorer in terms of football achievements.

Merry Christmas Alexander Isak.
