Zubimendi scored the decisive goal as Arsenal earned a first-leg lead in the Carabao Cup semi-final. The Spaniard’s goal was a moment of real quality from the summer signing, as he linked up with Viktor Gyokeres before showing unerring composure in the penalty area.
It was the latest impressive performance from Zubimendi, who has become a key cog at Arsenal since his arrival from Real Sociedad last summer.
Arteta has been delighted with his impact in north London, but insisted there is more to come.
“Well, when we talk about Zubi, I think: what else can he do? He can do whatever he wants, it’s a bit similar to Declan’s qualities,” Arteta said in his post-match press conference.
“We just have to keep unlocking that in his system, in his brain, because he is so good at occupying different spaces, carrying the ball, dribbling, winning duels, and he has a talent when he gets into the last set and into the box.
“He’s so calm; he sees the picture very clearly. The picture is clear sometimes. I know the parts of the pitch and what he did today. I think it’s phenomenal, not just the goal but the performance.”
Arsenal are aiming to win the League Cup for the first time since 1993 this season, as well as continuing to pursue the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Arteta said the hard-fought win at Chelsea would boost his side’s momentum.
“Really good, because it’s a very difficult place to get to. They’re at the top and when you see them live too, the quality they have, how they open you up in a second with the quality they have, that’s impressive. That’s why I really appreciate what the team has done again.”
