Arne Slot has to do something today that he has not been able to do in his last seven attempts since January

London is a favorite tourist destination for many holidaymakers, but no one can blame Arne Slot for not being very fond of the British capital.

The Dutchman once again takes his Liverpool side to the bustling Thames metropolis today as the Premier League champions take on West Ham, one of just seven teams below the Reds in the top flight on Sunday morning.

The Merseysiders recorded a 5-0 win on their most recent visit to the London Stadium in their final game of 2024, but unlike the rough state of health we were in then, we are now in such a quagmire that the head coach position has come under much public scrutiny.

Slot did not enjoy his visits to London in 2025 (except for one)

When Liverpool recorded a dramatic 2-0 win over Brentford on January 18 this year, it was their third success in the capital in a month, with the aforementioned Irons thrashing preceded by a 6-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur just before Christmas.

However, since Darwin Nunez’s heroics at the Gtech Community Stadium ten months ago, Slot’s Reds have been back to London seven times and failed to record a win:

Liverpool must ease the pain on Sunday

Liverpool’s recent record in London is nightmarish, with six 90th-minute defeats and another penalty loss in their last seven visits to the capital. A continuation of that unenviable series today would put even more pressure on Slot.

A month ago West Ham had the worst home record in the Premier League, losing their first four games 12-2 on home soil, but they have since recorded back-to-back wins in the E20 against Newcastle and Burnley.

Nuno Espirito Santo has seen a resurgence of late with the Irons unbeaten in November and they could feel they are meeting the Reds at the perfect time given the Premier League champions’ dreadful form.

A defeat this afternoon by two goals or more would see Liverpool go into December in 14th place in the table, which would be downright embarrassing for Slot’s team after what they achieved last season.

Conversely, a win would move us to within a point of fourth-placed Sunderland, and as torrid as Liverpool’s form has undoubtedly been, the concertina-like nature of the current Premier League table offers LFC the opportunity to climb several positions in a short space of time.

Three points today are a must in every possible way, whether it’s a repeat of our last visit to West Ham or a dramatic injury-time intervention reminiscent of Nunez at Brentford.
