Arne Slot greeted the “great mentality” of his Liverpool side when they hissed a second half of Everton to win the Merseyside Derby on Saturday in Anfield.
The Reds led two goals for their local rivals in the first half thanks to a wonderful attack by Ryan Gravenberch and a low, sloping finish by Hugo Ekitike.
The old cliché that a lead of two goals is the most dangerous in football, has never applied for more than Liverpool this season, after they have already given up three.
Idrissa Gana Gueye pulled one back with a great goal in the 58th minute, so that the fear was fueled that it could happen again. But the Merseyside outfit excluded the cooles for the rest of the game to keep their 100 percent record in all competitions.
Speaking with the BBC match of the day after the last whistle, Slot said that he was “very” satisfied with the result and the performance after being confronted in the Champions League in the midweek in the Champions League.
“Keep in mind that we had to play our third game in seven games, with the early kick -off,” he said. “I don’t care about the early kick -off, but I don’t care if you should play on Wednesday evening, then you have to manage this all week.
“Keep all in the neighborhood and win the derby with a great achievement in the first half, it’s good.”

Liverpool was dangerous in the first 45 minutes, but after the interval had to show defensive discipline to see the match and win a victory without a late goal for the first time.
“This is what you get when you are fresh, but we were tired in the second half for obvious reasons,” Slot added.
“Our mentality kept us in the game because they had no new chance after their 2-1 goal. We shown a big mentality and showed great quality when we were fresh in the first half.”
