Blockchain -analyzed company Arkham has shown that a previously unknown hack of the Chinese mining pool Lubian resulted in December 2020 in the theft of 127,426 BTC worth around $ 3.5 billion at that time.
This makes it the biggest crypto -theft in history, Arkham said, and the Trek today would be worth no less than $ 14.5 billion.
“Neither Lubian nor the Hacker has publicly recognized the hack,” the company said.
Breaking: Arkham discovers $ 3.5b robbery – the biggest ever
Lubian was a Chinese mining pool with facilities in China and Iran. Based on analysis of data on chains, it seems that 127,426 BTC was stolen from Lubian in December 2020, worth $ 3.5 billion at that time and now worth it … pic.twitter.com/pniokgmt0i

Larger than Mt. Gox
The infringement was not reported for more than four years, despite the tapping of almost all the interests of Lubian. The MijnPool, which was once worldwide TOP Teen with 6% of Bitcoin’s Hash percentage, mysteriously closed in the beginning of 2021. The closure was previously attributed to the regulatory pressure, but is now given the result of this catastrophic hack.
Arkham reported that the mine pool seems to have been hacked for the first time in December 2020 for more than 90% of the BTC. Later that month, around $ 6 million extra BTC and USDT were stolen from a Lubian address that was active on the Bitcoin Omni layer. The miner worked at the end of December 2020 with their remaining funds to recovery portfolios.
Arkham believes that the theft was made possible by a weak generation of the private key, vulnerable to brutal-force attacks. Lubian made desperate attempts to restore the funds and sent more than 1500 small transactions with 1.4 BTC with messages that argue for the return of the funds, but the hacker never responded.
Lubian kept 11,886 BTC, currently worth $ 1.35 billion, which they still have; However, the hacker also still has the stolen BTC, with their last known movement as a wallet consolidation in July 2024.
The massive robbery makes the Lubian Hacker the 13th largest Bitcoin holder on Arkham, for the Mt. Gox Hacker, it said.
