Overnight leader Arjun Prasad came one step closer to his first title and opened a six-shot lead on Moving Day in the Tamil Nadu Open in the Coimbatore Golf Club on Thursday.

The golfer of Delhi had the best round of the day of 4 under 68 after the penultimate round of the RS 1 Crore event presented by Sipcot and Tancem, said the PGTI.

The 26-year-old, who started the day with one shot, brought his 54-hole total to 8 under 208.

Behind him, Sri Lanka’s N. Thangaraja (72-73-69) achieved six places with his 3 below 69 to share second place with Noida’s Arjun Sharma and Anshul Kabthiyal from Delhi on 2 under 214.

Sharma (72-72-70), whose round had an eagle, jumped four places as a result of his third round score, while the 20-year-old Kabthiyal (74-69-71) rose three places to be part of the Drieweg draw for second place.

Dhaka’s Jamal Hossain, who finished second at night, slid to fifth place after returning a 74 on Thursday.

Chennai’s S. Prasanth was placed 52ND at 20 above 236.

Steady goose

PRASAD (70-70-68), who is second in the PGTI order of merit, had a fixed front nine where he exchanged Birdie for Bogey.

He took a pace at the rear nine with a few exceptional wigschoten that set up four birdies between holes 10 and 15. Prasad was closed with a bogey and a birdie on the last three holes.

“I started well and then had a solid phase with a row of pars where I kept the ball in the game,” Prasad said later.

“On the back nine I started to turn it closer and harvested the rewards with more Birdies.

“I feel that I have planned my rounds well so far by holding on to my game plan. I made good tee shots and gave myself many opportunities on the greens.

“Today I also hit my approaches well. The focus will be on repeating the same things and holding the base in the final round.”
