Two YJ editors tested Amazon’s best-selling yoga leggings. The results were not what we expected.

Yes, yoga is about much more than the physical, but we still need it all something to wear to class. And if you’re like us, you get a satisfying endorphin hit when you manage to score a good deal on yoga leggings (even if you already have enough pairs to warrant a dedicated leggings drawer).
When I saw this Sinophant high-waisted yoga leggings were on sale for $6.39 for Amazon Prime Day, I was extremely skeptical. Less than $10 for leggings? They would definitely tear in half as soon as I entered Down Dog, or fall apart on the first wash.
Curiosity eventually won and another YJ editor and I decided to put them to the test both on and off the mat.

Positives
Very soft
First impressions? These *don’t* feel cheap. Based on touch alone, we estimate the material to be between $30 and $40. They live up to their “buttery soft” description.
Super high turnout
The leggings also perform at the high waist. They actually ended up higher on my body than I thought (several inches above my belly button, even though I have a shorter torso), but that didn’t bother me because of the light weight and low profile material.
Waistband stays in place
During a 20-minute at-home exercise that introduced me to Dolphin, Child’s Pose, and Happy Baby, I didn’t feel the need to pull up the waistband once, which is impressive. The fabric moved easily with my body and I never felt restricted. Another editor tried them out while working on the computer and found them to be a comfortable option for working from home as well.
Decent compression
I would describe the compression as mild. As one of our editors says, “I appreciate the fact that it’s not so super compressive that I can’t breathe, but if I were someone who liked more compression I might be disappointed.”
Material
As someone who has written off almost all leggings that aren’t primarily cotton, I wasn’t super excited about the polyester/spandex hybrid of the Sinophant leggings. But even I was pleasantly surprised by how breathable they were, probably because of how thin the material is.
Disadvantages
Larger sizes are more expensive
After consulting the product’s size chart for my ideal fit, I was disappointed to see that adding a ā3X-Largeā to my cart cost me almost $2 more. Larger sizes that cost more are not new, but it is always a shame.
And while the 3X-Large and 4X-Large sizes are listed as options, it appears they only come in black.
Too much dust
When I first put the leggings on, it felt like I was putting on tights because I had to squeeze them down my body and pull them up inch by inch to spread the thin mass of fabric. Our other editor says she might consider opting for the capri length next time because the full length is way too long.
Some colors do not match the description
One of our editors has the black tie dyealthough in person it looks more of a deep purple than black. āThe pattern matches what’s on Amazon, but the color scheme definitely doesn’t,ā she explains.
Material
The description states that the leggings are not see-through, but I had to see for myself. They passed the test ‘Practicing the Down Dog, looking away from a mirror and awkwardly turning around to see if my underwear was visible’.
However, I then performed the ‘practicing Standing Forward Bend, looking away from a mirror and awkwardly turning around and pointing my phone flashlight at my butt’ test and DID see my underwear, albeit very subtly. I suspect that in a dimly lit yoga studio, no one would see anything inappropriate. However, in the fluorescent lights of a gym, I would hesitate to perform any form of forward bend.
If you’re looking for the cooling quality of other, more expensive leggings, you probably won’t find it here either.
Our verdict
Overall, the Sinofante yoga leggings Ticked more boxes than many other much more expensive leggings I’ve worn in the past. And for that price level? We say they are definitely worth a try.
