The renowned electronics manufacturer and primary production -employee of Apple, Foxconn, will start exporting iPhones from his new factory in Devanahalli. MB Patil, the Minister of Industry of Karnataka, stated that the first commercial shipments should start by June of this year.
This is a huge leap for the electronics sector of India. Minister Patil placed on social media that Apple CEO Tim Cook said that most iPhones sold in the US during the quarter of June will be produced in India. This is not only the creation of telephones it is an indication that Apple reworks the way in which it manages its global supply base. Because tensions in the trade and rates are rising worldwide, Apple is looking for alternative sites to produce its products. Karnataka and India in general are quickly coming up as large centers for high-end electronics production.
According to the Times of Hindustan, the Foxconn facility itself is something to watch at. Built on an investment of almost RS 22,000 Crore, includes 300 hectares in the ITIR industrial area, which runs from Doddaballapur to Devanahalli in the national belt of Bengaluru. The factory will generate around 40,000 direct employment, mainly for mid-skilled staff. The state government also promotes the project with stimuli of almost RS 7,000 crore under the design and production policy of the electronics system.
Foxconn chairman Young Liu has stated that this Bengaluru factory will be the second largest factory of the company in the world, after the head office in China. The Indian expansion of Foxconn is part of a broader strategy to diversify itself from China and to distribute its production to more countries.
