The Dallas Mavericks have seen the trade market for Anthony Davis cool significantly, with the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors stepping back from serious discussions in recent days. Both teams were previously described as the most determined candidates for Davis.
Interest in Davis waned after last week’s announcement that he will miss at least six weeks due to ligament damage in his left hand. The 32-year-old is owed $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for 2027-2028.
Davis averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks in 20 games this season. His player efficiency rating of 21.6 matches his production after last season’s blockbuster trade from the Los Angeles Lakers for Luka Doncic.
Dallas acquired Davis at the center of the Doncic trade but has struggled to stay competitive this season due to his injury issues.
Toronto had explored potential deals for Davis despite concerns about his extensive injury history and the looming extension extension.
The Mavericks face a decision on whether to lock Davis down for the remainder of the season to maximize their draft position or attempt to trade him during the summer when his market could improve.
Dallas won’t have control of its first-round pick again until 2031, making the 2026 draft particularly valuable for the franchise’s rebuilding efforts. The team is positioned to land a top selection in a loaded draft class to complement their efforts in building around Cooper Flagg.
