Anthony Davis’ 2026 run with the Wizards may be over before it started.
The new Washington star is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season so he can recover from both hand and groin problems, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported Friday evening.
A year after being sent from the Lakers to the Mavericks for Luka Doncic in a bombshell trade, Davis was sent to Washington from Dallas in a trade that involved seven other players and five draft picks.
Davis, 32, has averaged 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game this year — while actually being on the court. He has played just 20 games and has not played since January 8 due to his hand injury.
In one interview with Athletics Published Friday, Davis said he likes what he’s seen so far in Washington.
“The visit was great,” he said. “They definitely welcomed me with open arms and spent some time with me [governor] Ted [Leonsis] And [Monumental president of media & new enterprises] Zach [Leonsis]. It’s completely different than they make it seem. I know it’s like they have this stigma of not being a good team. I haven’t seen the practice facility yet, but the arena is top class, definitely world class. I’ve seen the chefs and how they take care of the families. It was great.”
The Wizards are near the cellar of the Eastern Conference at 14-36, but already made a splash move earlier this year when they acquired Trae Young in a trade with the Hawks in January. Young, like Davis, has not played a game for his new team.
Next season could be interesting for Washington, with Davis under contract for at least one more year, while Young has a player option for 2026-2027.

Whether or not Young stays in DC, he welcomed Davis on Wednesday with a throwback photo of them together.
“Unavoidable!” Young wrote.
Now fans will have to wait to see if the two actually play a game together for Washington.
