Anthony Davis is struggling with an injury again.
The oft-sidelined Mavericks big man suffered ligament damage in his left hand and could miss “several months” if surgery is required, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The team announced that Davis is “currently seeking multiple opinions” regarding the injury.
Even without surgery, Davis is expected to miss at least six weeks.
The latest Davis injury comes as the Mavericks were acquiring the 10-time All-Star on the trade market ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline — less than a year after the shock deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers and Davis to Dallas.
Earlier this week, NBA insider Chris Haynes said Davis was “a guy that rival executives expect to be on the way” before the trade deadline.
Haynes specifically linked Davis to the Hawks, who cleared up their cap situation by dealing Trae Young to the Wizards earlier this week.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported this earlier this week that Davis’ “preference would be to remain in Dallas,” although he is seeking an extension that the Mavericks may not want to give him.
Davis is currently under contract through next season with a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-2028 season.

But the injury, which will almost certainly knock him out at the deadline, complicates a potential trade.
In his debut with the Mavs last February, Davis suffered a left adductor injury that kept him out for a month and a half.
This season, Davis played just 20 games, missing time due to groin and calf injuries.
All told, he has played just 29 regular season games as a Maverick.
When Davis is on the court this season, he is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.
