Hello everyone,
I’m going to be blunt.
Currently I am a freelance web designer who is in a very bad financial situation. I’m not in a position to create a brand for myself over a period of months while experimenting endlessly.
I am looking for fast paying jobs and I want to do this by following the right path.
I’m not asking for anyone to use their pity to help me find a job; I ask for help from people who have been in my position before and successfully earned their way out.
Unfortunately, while I can design and build modern, professional-looking websites, the problem isn’t technical, but rather getting a consistent number of yeses.
I’ve tried cold emailing, using LinkedIn for outreach, reaching out to local businesses, and I’m currently also working on using Upwork; However, with Upwork I feel like I’m in the dark because I don’t know what the average price is at which I could quickly win jobs without completely screwing myself up in terms of positioning, nor am I sure which jobs are worth applying to for me, rather than wasting my time applying for jobs that aren’t worth my time.
This indicates to me that several aspects of my method are inconsistent, and perhaps one of them needs to be revised to improve the results. I want to know what you would do if you had to get web design work on Upwork in the next few weeks. What would your strategy be? What price point would you target? Do you have preferences for the types of web development jobs you would apply for? Do you have insight into which types of customers make quick decisions? I currently have my price set at 20$ per hour for Upwork, but can go lower if necessary. My portfolio consists of 3 detailed case studies on web design concepts that I posted on my Behance.
While some may view this post as inappropriate, I think it helps me and many others to be open about the challenges I have experienced trying to acquire clients and continuing to invest my time and energy in this area without success. If you have encountered the same problems I have in the past, I welcome your thoughts on what you have learned and would be grateful for any advice you can share with me. Thank you for taking the time to read my message
