Mike Weeks, President of Enercam, notes about the Seismic: “We are very happy that we do seismic on block VIII. This technical work leads to defining on borders, all of which are part of the requirements to prove commercial oil and gas for Cambodia.”
Weeks, which has been working in industry around the world for decades, adds: “Discovering oil and gas changes a nation because it gives a country independence, recurring income and its own source of national energy. The entire economic activity not only receives a boost of the discovery, but of all additional service companies that develop as part of the industrial sector.”
The search for Enercam is to discover Cambodia’s first onshore oil and gas, since the country already imports its hydrocarbon -based energy products, which is spent several billion dollars a year.
Enercam strives to drill the first wells after the correct interpretation and target definition from the Seismian program.
The technical teams continue with additional research in the area simultaneously with the seismic. Approached by local residents and business owners while they go from line to line over the intended seismic area, the Geoscience team witnesses various deserted wells where oil is lashed in the well, making the water unusable for domestic use. The team has also purchased several extra surface oil bars, which contributes to the inventory of documented locations of surface oils.
The Seismic program employs 53 people to perform daily tasks to explain geophones to upcoming seismic lines every four meters and then to add the 25 meter data recorders that connect to the geophones. The pair of Envirovibe units then passes the prepared line to be shot and wipes the land to create the 50 meters along the line to create ground vibrations, and the results of the sound waves are transferred and absorbed. All geophones and data recorders are then collected and reversed in the next cycle for the upcoming lines. Geophones and recorders are generally trying to stay 24 hours ahead of the Envirovibe units, so the process is efficient and progresses in time.
Keith Edwards, Technical Manager for Enercam describes the program and the results so far: “We want on average about nine kilometers a day a day, with some short lines that last longer. The initial data look promising and the methodology and technology are such that we can wipe an area and receive good quality data.”
Interpretation of the data will take place after completion of the project, which is estimated between Central and the end of September. Between five and six weeks are budgeted as a timeline for interpretation.
Seismic teams carry out 350 lines of kilometers of two-dimensional seismic over four identified sub-basins on the west side of the license area and then go to the newly described ‘Mosselbekken’ on the northeast side of the license.
