Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is stunned about the “weird” speculation about his future, because Spurs chairman Daniel Levy did not clarify his position in his message at the end of the season.

The Australian led Spurs to Europa League Glory on Wednesday to end their 17-year-old trophy-dried and to earn the qualification of Champions League.

But he has challenged one of their worst league campaigns ever, with Sunday’s 4-1 home destruction against Brighton that she saw 17th ending-Hun lowest in Premier League history.

Tottenham also became the first side in the top -historical history that lost 22 games in a season of 38 games and was not relegated, while their 22 league losses were the same as the club record of the club for most defeats in a competition season (22 in 1934/35).

A first European trophy in 41 years against the background of a gloomy domestic season has led to intense speculation about his future, which Postecoglou does not understand.

He said at his press conference after the game: “I will be honest, I really found it strange to talk about my future if we have done something unprecedented.

“I had to answer the questions because no one else in the club is a bit able to do this, I think. But I can’t answer that question about me and my future, and some of me think a bit of, well, why is that question asked? But it is what it is.

“And I don’t doubt that this could be a real kind of decisive moment for this club, because wherever I am, I had a kind of impact where I have brought success in a club that has not had a while, and you just have to look at the process of those clubs, even after I left, they still compete for things.

“I really think this is a moment in the time where this club can really go on and can be a real candidate for an annual basis.”

The comments from Postecoglou come after Tottenham chairman Levy did not provide any guarantees about the long-term future of the former Celtic boss in his end-season report to fans, which was released before the defeat against Brighton.

Asked for his gut feeling in his future, Postecoglou replied: “My gut feeling is that I now feel that I have done something that nobody believed that I could. And I should not be here, sit there, talk about it. That is my feeling, but it is what it is.

“And I probably have it now because I am tired, size. It’s done. I don’t have to think about another game. I just want to take a break and enjoy my family and think about part of something incredible special.

“I was lucky to be in this position a number of times, but yesterday see those scenes and the people who have contacted me and talked to me about how it is influenced and what happened the last few days, that’s just a wonderful thing and I just want to enjoy it.

“To be honest, the rest, I don’t even want to talk about it. I just think it’s unnecessary.

“You are right to ask the question, but you ask the person who can’t give that answer. And I think even before you would not ask if there would be no doubt. But I can’t answer it. There is nothing that I can say that that question can answer. Other people can, so from my perspective, it cannot reduce the performance.

“I have so faith in what we can build at this football club, and I want to continue and take it to the next level and we will see if that happens or not.”

Ange has ‘undoubtedly’ traces will be stronger in PL next season

The name of Postecoglou was sung by Spurs fans during the Europa League Trophy Parade at the end of the defeat of Brighton.

He also saw a lot of love and affection during the open-top bus parade on Friday, so he supplied the murderous line that “season three is always better than season two”.

Wondered why next season will be different next season, he said: “I made decisions that I felt that we would give the best chance to achieve the goal that we had to achieve this year, and that influenced our competition form.

“If people don’t want to take that into account, then I can’t say anything to explain better than that.

“I came to the club when the eighth ended. I didn’t take over a club that finished second. It had no European football to talk about. It lost the only player [Harry Kane] That probably guarantees your European football. That was my starting point. After two years I have the club a trophy for which he shouted, Champions League football, we finished fifth last year.

Sky Sports Senior football journalist Pete Smith analyzes the statistics behind the historic Europa League victory of Tottenham

“Either people say that last year was a huge deviation for us to finish fifth, or this is what we deliver.

“I have no doubt that next year we will be in a much stronger position in the competition, a challenge for the top places.

“I have no doubt that we will tackle the Champions League with the same determination that we have tackled the Europa League.

“I have no doubt. I think that if people look for more evidence about me, there is nothing that I will say that they will convince them if they have not seen it in the last two years.”

Redknapp: Ange deserves another season

Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp:

“I said earlier that if he wins the Europa League, he must keep his job.

“Forget what happened because it has been a disappointing league campaign. It has been a bizarre season if you can end up so low but still win a European Cup.

“You have to credit it to him and winning a trophy was his assignment.

“What he said in the middle season was one of the great quotes of all time.” I always win something in my second season “is almost there with ‘I would love it if we beat them’. It’s there with the ‘Special One’.

“To say it and then deliver it, it surprised me. But I get the feeling when he speaks and I hear a few things about things that don’t go to his advantage.

“They have had injuries this year, but they should still not perform as they did in the competition. However, I think he will earn another season.”

“Why would Ange ask, his future?”

Sky Sports’ Roy Keane:

“I think it is unfair to keep asking him about his situation because he is under contract.

“I don’t hear that other managers are constantly asked if they will be a job next year.

“Why should he answer that?

“He will undoubtedly be under pressure, but he is under contract.

“He is clearly at the back of a great success in the midweek, but the competition form is shocking.

“You would think he is a trophy and that they will have Champions League next season that he would get some kind of support.”
