Vice captain of Liverpool Andy Robertson expects Milos Kerkez to bounce back from a scorching afternoon in Turf Moor, but has warned the Hungary International.
After 38 minutes, Robertson was raised in Burnley after Kerkez, who replaced the 31-year-old shot at the left back since his £ 40 million from Bournemouth this summer, received an early booking for simulation.
The 21-year-old came under the microscope when he dropped Burnley-wing player Jaidon Anthony, a free kick, and Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, admitted after the 1-0 victory of his team that he had withdrawn Kerkez to prevent the possibility of a red card.
‘There are many more eyes on you in a Liverpool sweater’
Slot’s suggestion that he could never be 100%”, certain that Kerkez would make no other mistake after receiving booking immediately made the headlines, but Robertson pointed to the challenges that are inherent in making the step at a young age.
“It’s a huge leap,” said Scotland’s captain, whose own move to Anfield from Hull City wears a 23-year-old clear parallels. “I came from Hull, he is from Bournemouth, and it is probably quite similar. There are many more eyes on you in a Liverpool sweater then [there are at] Those two clubs.
“He is only young, and I think we forget that. He has passed well. There is a lot of information and many different ways of playing, and he just has to continue and keep his confidence.
“We will try to help him and others all season, and I don’t doubt it in the future, he will be a fantastic left back for Liverpool, and that is the most important thing.”
‘You want to put busy and you want to play games’
Slot has shown that he has no competition about making such decisions. Last season the Dutchman Jarell Quansah replaced by Ibrahima Konaté during the break in his first game as Premier League manager at Ipswich last season, and he made the same replacement at home in Wolves in February after Konaté received an early booking.
Robertson, Whose Anfield Trophy Haul Includes Two League Titles, The Champions League and the Club World Cup, is Keen to use his experience to help the club’s Raft of Sumer Additions Settle in. But While He Believes the Likes of Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak Representer The Future of the Club, The Scot Insists He is not content Merely to Play Second Fiddle to Kerkez.
“All new signing sessions are young, but have an incredible potential,” said Robertson. “They are the future of the club and you try to help them as much as possible.
“But you want to put pressure on it and you want to play games. [Kerkez] Will be the left back for Liverpool in the future, and it is up to me to push him this season and help him improve.
“He has a fantastic future for him and he just has to keep working hard and not allow allowing them [his substitution] Influence on him, what it will not do, because he is a confident boy.
“I will help him as much as possible, but I want to play games and be the left back and I have to keep pushing to try to produce the levels that I know I can do it too.”
