Andrews ‘his mark’ in Brentford, says home hero Carvalho – football news

Fabio Carvalho believes that Keith Andrews ‘leaves his mark’ during his early term of office in Brentford after Saturday after the late heroic deeds of the bees against Chelsea.

Carvalho scored the equalizer in the 2-2 draw of Brentford with Chelsea in Gtech Community Stadium, even though he lagged behind Moises Caicedo’s amazing finish.

Kevin Damage had opened the score after racing the inch-perfect pass from Jordan Henderson, only for Cole Palmer to mark his return from injury with the aim of recovering parity.

But the late finish of Carvalho provided a part of the loot for Brentford, who are 12th in the Early Premier League classification after taking four points of their first four games.

The former Liverpool striker has made the habit of scoring late goals, with all six of his top strikes in the 75th minute or later, where each of his last four comes after the 89th minute.

The equalizer of Carvalho was also the seventh goal that Brentford scored from a throw in the Premier League since the beginning of last season, at least five more than any other side.

“Brentford is big on set pieces and it is good to put that in practice. It is not as easy as it looks [to find space] But hopefully I can do that again, “Carvalho told Sky Sports.

“We do many analyzes outside the field with video and use it.

“Keith (Andrews) also makes his mark with the staff and the team is on board. We have sufficient quality to do well this season.

“I am sure it will be fine – we have lost players, but have added a lot of quality and as long as we stay together, it will be fine. Once we get strength, we will be good.”

Brentford closed the expected goals (XG) metric against Chelsea and placed a total of 1.41 in the 1.22 of the blues, even though they had nine fewer shots than their opponents (seven to 16).

The bees had lost three of their last five Premier League matches (W1 D1), as much as they had lost in their previous 14 combined (W8 D3 L3) on their way to the meeting, but Andrews was satisfied with the character showing his players.

“Entry with the approach of the group, the character we constantly show,” Andrews added.

“The equalizer came very late, but it is what I felt that we deserved the game in terms of the application, the quality that the players showed for large parts.

“They will inevitably have periods in which they are at the top of them, but I felt that we had a lot to do tonight.”

In the meantime, for Chelsea they missed the opportunity to make a statement and go the top of the Premier League after Arsenal and Tottenham won earlier on Saturday.

The blues could not click in gear during the first half, with Enzo Maresca turned to his bank while he replaced Wesley Fofana, Facundo Buonanotte and Jamie Gittens during the break.

After the break, his team improved, in which Palmer’s Equalizer brought his 50th career club goal (44 for Chelsea, six for Manchester City), but only his fifth as a replacement.

Although he came up in the 56th minute, the English international had more shots (five) than any other player in the game, with his 61st minute strike set up by Joao Pedro.

Indeed, the Brazilian has now been directly involved in five goals in four Premier League matches for Chelsea (two goals, three assists), while the only player who reaches five targeted involvement in fewer matches for the blues in the competition is Eden Hazard (three games).

Maresca, however, complained Chelsea’s inability to defend Brentford’s equalizer against a set piece, whereby that late setback serves as a reminder of what they should improve, especially if they want to get positive results of their next two games, traveling to Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

“We knew it was a tough game. In the first half we had trouble finding solutions, the space, because they defended very well,” said Maresca.

“I think we were much better in the second half. It’s a shame because we admitted in 93rd minute and could better manage that moment.

“You have to be able to avoid transitions and set pieces – they scored from transitions and set pieces.

“It is something we deal with very well during the game, but in the end we admit and it’s a shame.”
