It looks like Andrew Tackett plans to stick around for a while.Syndicate’s MMA representative submitted Elijah Dorsey with a heel hook to retain his welterweight crown in the first round of their UFC BJJ 4 headliner on Thursday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Dorsey conceded a defeat 2:21 into Round 1.
Tackett fought through a guillotine choke attempt, took top position and then played a short game of dueling with Lloyd Irvin’s disciple. He lured Dorsey deeper into his trap, found the desired bite on the heel hook and applied the necessary leverage to force the tapout.Meanwhile, Ronaldo Junior methodically demolished William Tackett to a unanimous decision that gave him the inaugural UFC BJJ Middleweight Championship in the three-round co-main event. All three judges sided with the Brazilian: 30-26, 30-24 and 30-24.
Tackett landed two takedowns and made some positional advances in the first round, but couldn’t keep the Rio de Janeiro native at bay. Junior dumped him on the mat and climbed to full mount several times in the last ten minutes, threatening guillotines, brabo chokes, arm triangles and anaconda chokes. Tackett spent the waning moments in survival mode, as reaching the finish line amid visible exhaustion served as a kind of moral victory.
Finally, Aurelie Le Vern knocked out Raquel Canuto with a kimura in the first round of their featured attraction to capture the inaugural UFC BJJ women’s featherweight title. Canuto cried uncle 3:38 into round 1.
Le Verne executed a takedown within the first 90 seconds, withstood a reversal from the Hawaiian and trapped her in an inverted triangle. Canuto failed to free himself and was unable to defend the follow-up attacks, as panic gradually took hold. Le Verne isolated the left arm of Robert Drysdale’s protĂ©gĂ©, twisting with maximum torque and leading to a submission.
In other action, Bella Mir – the 22-year-old daughter of former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder Frank Mir – claimed a majority decision over Rana Willink in their three-round women’s featherweight bout; Jussier Formiga took a unanimous decision win over Lucas Pinheiro in their three-round bantamweight fight; Landon Elmore submitted Nate Hernandez with a footlock 42 seconds into the first round of their featherweight match; Renato Canuto earned a unanimous decision against Alan Sanchez in their three-round welterweight affair; Andy Varela turned away Robby Malof with a heel hook 1:52 into the third round of their welterweight tilt; Dorian Olivarez walked away with a unanimous decision over Samuel Nagai in their three-round lightweight pairing; and Mayssa Bastos picked up a unanimous decision against Amanda Alequin in their three-round women’s strawweight bout
