Andre Fili took his 13th career victory in the Octagon and beat Christian Rodriguez in a three-round war UFC Vegas 109.
After a fairly competitive first first four and a half minutes, Rodriguez seemed to steal the opening round with a late Takedown.
With neither hunter who made a statement in the second, it was someone’s fight that went into the third and last stanza. Rodriguez recognized the narrow nature of the fight and raised his aggression, but that eventually cost him early when Fili scored a Takedown in the middle of the Octagon With more than three minutes to go.
After a short clambering, Rodriguez succeeded in standing up again and breaking loose. Probably in the back of the round, Rodriguez put his foot on the gas, putting pressure from Fili and looking for a fight -changing blow. Rodriguez connected to Fili with a large left hook. Unfortunately for Rodriguez he was unable to take advantage of the opportunity before he was removed by the Fili.
Rodriguez worked up again, but could not turn the tide in the last 30 seconds of the scrap.
Official result: Andre Fili Def. Christian Rodriguez via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27).
