Amorim: You have no control over the next day in football – Football News

Ruben Amorim revealed that while it was helpful to gain public support from Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, he does not believe he is guaranteed any time at the club.

In an interview with The Times last week, Ratcliffe stated that it could take Amorim three years to make an impact at the club, compared to Mikel Arteta’s journey at Arsenal.

The Red Devils currently sit tenth in the Premier League after seven games, having won just three of those matches.

United also face a tough test against Liverpool on Sunday. They are winless in their last nine Premier League games at Anfield since a 1-0 win in January 2016 under Louis van Gaal (D5 L4).

Liverpool could become only the second team after Chelsea to avoid defeat in more than ten consecutive Premier League home games against the Red Devils.

Despite receiving constant support from Ratcliffe, Amorim does not want his players or staff to believe they have three years to make a difference.

“It’s very good to hear it, but he tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after games – but you know, I know and Jim knows, that football isn’t like that,” Amorim said.

“The most important thing is the next game. Even with owners, in football you have no control over the next day.”

“It’s not just something people talk about, I feel it every day. It’s really good to hear it because it helps our fans understand the leadership, knowing it’s going to take a while.”

“But at the same time I don’t like it because it gives the feeling that we have time to work things out. I don’t want that feeling in our club.”

“The pressure I put on the team or on myself is so much greater [than that from outside]. In football, especially at big clubs, you have to prove yourself every weekend.”
