Amorim: You feel the fear every time Dorgu touches the ball – Republik Of Mancunia: A Manchester United Blog

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made some surprisingly candid comments on Patrick Dorgu’s performances for the club.

Having scored for Denmark during the international break before sending one of our best chances against Everton flying over the bar, Amorim claims the player is full of anxiety when representing United.

Speaking to the press ahead of our match against Crystal Palace, Amorim criticized the full-back. These comments coincidentally coincide with reports that Dorgu liked a social media post mocking the manager.

I don’t know what will happen in January. What I feel, when I see them training, they do so much better than in competitions. Patrick, when I see him playing for the national team, he scored a great goal against Scotland. The decision he made under pressure was completely different from the decision he makes in our team. He needs to be calmer during the game. Every time Patrick touches the ball you feel the fear. I can feel the fear.

When Amorim was asked specifically about the performances of all the full-backs, he was again less than complimentary.

I think they are far from the best, and they know it. So, like a lot of players on our team, like me. So I just look at them, and I think they have so much more to offer. So let’s see, let’s see this week if we can improve that.

United lost to Everton in our last 10-man match and Amorim was rightly criticized for being left on the pitch with so many defensive players. Amorim thought about that position.

It depends on how you play. Some teams play with four central defenders. I play with three, and one of them is Luke Shaw. Sometimes it’s Nous [Mazraoui] and Shaw, so only one central defender. And if you have Amad as a full-back, he is a winger, not a full-back. It depends how you look at it. We’re too soft around the box. We conceded too many crosses against Nottingham. Against Everton we conceded from their only shot on target. It changes how you look at it, but of course it has to be better. It’s not a problem with the defenders, but with how we sense the danger.
