Despite his determination to return quickly when United resume their Premier League campaign against Wolves on Tuesday evening, Fernandes will not be rushed back.
Amorim insists he will not gamble with the midfielder’s fitness, even though Fernandes has already contributed five goals and seven assists in 17 league appearances this season.
“Bruno already said he has to train, but we don’t know,” United head coach Amorim said at his pre-match press conference.
‘There is no chance he will play against Wolves. No chance. You can write that.’
Amorim also joked that Fernandes could keep an eye on his position, highlighting the midfielder’s leadership qualities including observing training even when he cannot play.
“He can’t be that guy [when he] doesn’t play, he talks and doesn’t talk,” Amorim added.
‘He’s always talking. That’s why he’s the captain. He has bad things sometimes, the way he moves his arms, but he has a lot of good things.
“Every time he recovers from the [previous] match, he’s the guy who’s going to see the other guys training on that day, so there’s a lot of things you guys don’t see that he sees. He’s a great leader.’
When asked if Fernandes continued this behavior while injured, Amorim replied: “Yes, all the time.
‘He’s the guy who watches the training. Even after treatment he goes there.
“I don’t know if he wants my job or not, but he’s a leader. The man is a leader.’
United are also monitoring Mason Mount’s condition ahead of the game against Wolves after the midfielder was forced off during the win at Newcastle.
Kobbie Mainoo will also miss the match, while defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire remain unavailable.
“I don’t know how Mase will feel about that match,” Amorim said.
‘I don’t think Kobbie Mainoo will be ready for it. Bruno won’t be ready for it.
“I don’t think Matt will be ready for it. Harry won’t be ready. So I don’t think we will have more players.’
