“When I saw there was another race for her, a one-win trot, I thought we would make the most of it,” said trainer-driver John Morrison.
The Creatine The three-year-old had a slight bump at the start of her first race on the grass at Oamaru last Wednesday before moving to the front and holding on comfortably to win by a length.
“She just wanted to go too fast at first, but she corrected herself and got the job done.”
Amistozo clearly showed her talent in the run-up to her first victory. She had won four preliminary training sessions and/or tests.
FRIENDSHIP REPEAT
Morrison received the filly as a “late yearling or early two-year-old” from her breeders Steve and Natalie Roulston.
Today she takes her place in Race 11 (8:01 p.m.), the Oscar Bonavena Standing at Stud Trot.
“We pulled out a little bit (10) and it doesn’t hurt,” Morrison said.
“She needs to be educated about racing on big fields.”
So can she go two of two today at Mt Harding?
“It’s a big ask for a young trotter to do that,” says Morrison, “but she’s doing well enough.”
“If she runs a nice race and continues, I will be happy.”
In a large field of 17 trotters, the markets have her as the $2.50 favourite, followed by the Paul Nairn-trained Call Dudley at $3.70.
Methven’s 12-race program starts at 3:15 p.m.
