The Wallaroos have demanded their first victory over the United States for a home floor, with a triumph of 27-19 in Canberra.
Two attempts to open side sliding Ashley Marsters, Australia led to the eight -pointed victory, despite the efforts of the American prop hopeers who scored a hat trick for the Eagles.
The test match was soured when US Inside Center Alev Kelter lost its cool and repeatedly stamped on the head of Wallaroo Georgina Friedrichs.
Friedrichs held Kelter’s BootLaces and tried to complete a tackle, only for the American to stamp several times on her head.
Kelter received a straight red card for the brain hood.
The match was without a doubt when Kelter was sent away in the 79th minute, with the Wallaroos defeating the Americans four attempts to three and claimed their first victory in this year’s Pacific Four series.
The defense of the Wallaroos, especially late on their goal line, proved to be crucial in victory.
‘We just kept rolling up and got off the line [and] continued to make our short tackles, “said Wallaroos Fullback Caitlyn Halse.
“Very proud of the girls. We worked on that all week.”
The Americans were the first to score, with hope that Rogers came in from close by in the 15th minute, but Australia answered through wing player Charlotte Caslick and scored her first test match.
An attempt at Marsters and Prop Eva Karpani helped the Wallaroos to a 19-14 lead.
Both parties scored one attempt in the second half, with a criminal goal from Faitala Moleka that expanded the margin to eight points with 19 minutes to play.
The Americans had better possession and territory throughout the game, but mistakes continued to hinder their momentum.
The US admitted 17 penalties in the competition, compared to only seven from Australia.
“I think we were a bit of our own worst enemy with some of our mistakes because we had some great moments of playing,” said the American star Ilona Maher.
“I feel that we have sometimes done it with ourselves, but [there is] Much to learn from. “
Australia will be confronted in Lang Park next Friday in Lang Park.
