Formula 1 has announced a contract extension for the United States Grand Prix, which will see the race remain at the Circuit of The Americas until at least the end of 2034.

The circuit in Austin, Texas has been home to the race since 2012, providing F1 with a permanent venue after a five-year period without the USGP. The current contract would expire after the 2026 edition, but a contract extension will ensure that COTA remains on the calendar for another eight years.

“Since 2012, the United States Grand Prix has continued to grow in strength and popularity, and I would like to thank the City of Austin and Travis County for hosting us,” said F1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali.

“Each year, the Circuit of The Americas event stands out as a true highlight for fans, drivers and teams, attracting hundreds of thousands of passionate supporters who come to witness the thrilling on-track action and enjoy the vibrant energy of the track and the city.

“As Formula 1 continues to grow and prosper in the United States, we are proud to expand our partnership with Bobby Epstein and his excellent team in Austin, as well as Governor [Greg] Abbott, whose leadership has been instrumental in supporting the development of the sport in Texas and beyond. Both have shown an unwavering commitment to F1, and their shared vision and investments have played a crucial role in building the strong foundation we now enjoy in the US.”

Austin remains one of the most attended races of the season as the crowd will again exceed 400,000 fans this year, and that success comes despite the more recent additions of races in Miami and Las Vegas.

The race calculates that it has delivered $7 billion in economic impact to Austin and Texas since 2012, and estimates that the 2023 race alone has generated direct and indirect spending of more than $1 billion.

“We are pleased that Formula 1 has found a home in Texas and are grateful to the fans, teams and the entire F1 community who have consistently supported us and made the United States Grand Prix a favorite stop on the global calendar,” said COTA Chairman Bobby Epstein. “We are also proud of – and appreciate – the people of Central Texas who have been such gracious hosts!

“With this contract, COTA will overtake Watkins Glen as the longest-established Formula 1 circuit in the United States. Thanks to tremendous support and a great host city, the United States Grand Prix has become one of the world’s largest single-weekend sporting events, with an unparalleled annual economic impact.”

COTA’s extension follows a lengthy extension in Miami, with the Florida race confirmed on the F1 calendar earlier this year until 2041.
