UFC 324 took a major hit when UFC bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison was forced to withdraw from her scheduled bout with the returning Amanda Nunes due to injury. Harrison, who won the UFC women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 316 last year, suffered a neck injury that will sideline her for at least six months.
At the time of writing, it is uncertain whether Nunes, who was scheduled for her first fight since UFC 289, will remain on the UFC 324 card in an interim title fight. UFC matchmakers promoted Sean O’Malley vs. Song Yadong to the co-main event slot.
Nunes and Harrison are former teammates on America’s Top Team who were on a collision course after UFC 316. Harrison recently broke her silence on social media since her stunning withdrawal from UFC 324, and now Nunes has followed suit.

In a recent one Instagram post, Nunes broke her silence on social media for the first time since Harrison’s withdrawal.
“The flame remains alive,” Nunes posted alongside footage of training with Harrison’s former PFL foe Larissa Pacheco.
Nunes retired after a successful bantamweight title defense against Irene Aldana at UFC 289 in Vancouver. She was scheduled to fight Julianna Pena in a trilogy at UFC 289 before Pena pulled out due to injury.
The 37-year-old Nunes is considered by many to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, regardless of gender. Earlier in her UFC period, she defeated Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm and Cris Cyborg, among others.
At the time of writing, it appears that the UFC’s current plans are for Harrison vs. Nunes to postpone to a later date. Meanwhile, Nunes is hard at work in the gym with the only woman to defeat Harrison in her professional MMA career.
