I was excited about the Altra Experience Flow 2 Because it would not be the typical Altra Nul-drop running shoe.
Having a shoe with a 4 mm heel-toe drop makes Altra an option for those who are not interested in a zero-drop shoe or want to make the gradual switch.
Don’t worry, Altra kept what they are known for and has still recorded his Footshape ™ Teenbox design.
The biggest updates are to improve how the shoe feels in the midsole and the heel.
Altra took the midsole with their completely new ego P35 foam to give a more responsive ride, without going overboard on softness as you could find in the New Balance 1080.
I would describe the feeling under the foot as a nice mix of comfort and protection. It is not sturdy like most altra shoes, but not super plush such as a pair of new balance or loft.
Whether you run or walk, the Rocker form gives you that subtle forward role in every step. That is not something that you usually expect from an Altra, but with the 4 mm drop linked to the Ego P35 foam, the ride feels smoother and more efficiently than what you would get from their typical zero-drop set.
Can we take the time to appreciate how stylish these shoes are? More than not a running shoe will look fantastic, but feel terrible.

The Experience current 2 Is not labeled like a trail shoe, but it holds like a stand. I have already captured several runs on mixed surfaces and the tread still looks almost new.
I haven’t tested them in the rain yet, but based on the grip so far I would feel pretty confident on slippery sidewalks or a wet gravel path. That outsole with full coverage is not only there to look nice, but has a goal!

There is just enough filling in the tongue and heel collar so that you feel supported but not overwhelmed by a lot of material.
