As if tonight’s game — the Beanpot Championship, a rematch between last year’s finalists and the schools with the most Beanpot wins — didn’t already have enough cache, it’s the 300th meeting between the Commonwealth Avenue rivals who first met at the Boston Arena in 1918.

Ten days after their last meeting, a 4-1 win by the Eagles, BU and BC will face off in the 73rd Beanpot Tournament championship game. Their last title game win in 2016 was against BU, a 1-0 overtime win.

The Terriers, who have reached the championship match in 58 of 73 tournaments and won a record 32 times, are looking to repeat this for the first time since winning three in a row between 2005 and 2007.

BU leads the series with BC, 141-137-21 (.507) and is also 31-17 (.646) in Beanpot games.

In Friday’s win against Maine, two Terriers ended their goal scoring drought. Cole Eiserman scored his first goal in five games Ryder Ritchie who was the match winner in extra time, had not scored since the beginning of November. Both hope to keep the scoring touch going against BC.

Ritchie spoke about the Beanpot final at the post-match press conference on Friday: “It’s an honor. Just the players that have played in the past, how many people show up – it’s a big thing for Boston, so it’s been a great atmosphere. I can’t wait for Monday.”

Charlie Trethewey missed Friday’s game due to a death in his family. Coach Jay Parolfo said the freshman would be back in Boston for Sunday’s practice.

The #11/13 Eagles followed up their win in Agganis with a 5-1 win over Harvard last Monday, but fell back down to earth on Friday with a 6-1 home ice loss to Vermont. Since the calendar turned to 2026, BC has won four of seven, including a sweep of New Hampshire.

NHL.com posted a new post in Tynan Lawrence’s draft diary. The freshman center deals with his first month as a terrier and his first Beanpot experience.

So I’ve been at Boston University for almost a month and it’s been great. I think the college game is just a faster game. You play against guys who are a lot older and stronger, but one of the main differences is your time and space. In the USHL you have 3-4 seconds to play. In college you have 1-2 seconds. Hockey is a lot faster, but I think once you get used to it, it gets easier.

I experienced my first Beanpot game on Monday, a 3-2 shootout win against Northeastern. It was definitely a cool experience, great atmosphere at TD Garden in Boston. It’s a great building to play in, especially with all the teams that play there and I’m looking forward to the Beanpot final against Boston College on Monday.

Winter Olympics

Charlie McAvoywho will serve as alternate captain for Team USA, writes one Olympic diary for The Athletic (subscription). Here’s an excerpt:

It’s been great in Milan so far and I’m so glad I came early.

Landed a few days ago and me and Zach Werenski, Jake Oettinger and Sway (Jeremy Swayman) were outfitted in our Ralph Lauren outfits and then got to be part of the opening ceremony.

For me it felt like a unique experience to be there and see thousands of people cheering us on and be with the other athletes and everyone from Team USA. It was truly one of the most special things I have been a part of.

And once you meet so many different athletes, you want to go to events and cheer for them. So we went to figure skating last night, and it was incredible.

The village is really cool. It really feels like you’re back in college, really, you know, it’s dorms, it’s small, there’s a dining hall, some rec rooms, athletes everywhere. So that’s kind of like your students. And it’s always busy. Everyone comes and goes, everyone has their own schedule. So I feel like I’m kind of back at BU.
