Existing customers shouldn’t worry too much as this isn’t a drastic update. The key aspect of the A290+ refresh is that every model is now eligible for the full Band 1 Electric Car Grant of £3,750, whereas previously this was only the Band 2 benefit of £1,500. The classification has changed since August thanks to a shift in Alpine’s battery production; now it is in Douai, France, which reportedly meets all the criteria to qualify for the ECG. This was not the case with previous batteries. Add that to ‘Renault Group’s long-term commitment to meeting Science Based Target Initiative (SBTI) standards’ and, voila, £3,750 off a great little EV, which equates to prices from £30,245 for the A290 GT+.

For the 220bhp Alpines you really want, prices now start at £32,745 for the GT Performance+ and £34,245 for the GTS+. Furthermore, those who are still a little disappointed with the A290’s limited color palette – blue, gray, black, white – will be happy to hear about the new accessories for the ‘+’ cars. A Signature Colourline Pack is offered in blue or red, which accentuates the Brembo brake calipers, black snowflake rims, floor mat logos and roof rails in the chosen color; it costs £775 on a GT+ and GT Performance+, or £400 on a GTS+. There’s also a Tricolore Design Pack, which sounds like £180 well spent on each model with a French flag on the outside and a blue steering wheel with Alpine logo on the inside; It can be made into a Signature Tricolore (£900), which offers equipment such as reverse parking, hands-free parking and intelligent cruise control. That all seems a bit redundant in a small EV, but there we are.
“Earning the full grant of £3,750 is fantastic news, and I have no doubt this will increase the already amazing interest we have in the award-winning Alpine A290,” said Nicola Burnside, Head of Alpine Cars UK. “It’s an exciting hot hatch for the electric age, as good to drive as it is to look at, and I’m confident that anyone who gets behind the wheel will be immediately convinced that electric cars can be exciting.” The cars on order now will be delivered in early ’26, so it could be a good time to get a deal on a used A290; Used prices are from £30,000…
