UFC Vederweight Aljamain Sterling is on a mission to earn a title shot, and he believes that an impressive victory over Brian Ortega at UFC Shanghai places him in the title photo.
“I think a very impressive performance against Brian Ortega puts me in the conversation to challenge a title,” Sterling told reporters on Wednesday.
“Or at least one fight.”
Sterling (24-5) Faces Ortega A Colleague Graad Specialist Goed Thuis in Jiu Jitsu. It will be the basis that Sterling will use his struggles at a high level.
“I would imagine that I am probably looking for my openings for a Takedown before he will be. I think depending on how it goes, how he reacts, if I can get it relatively easily. If I may have to fight for it, we can just stand it,” he said.
“But if I get it relatively easy, I think the fans get what they want. They see two grapplers going at a high level.”
Regardless of how this fight goes, there is a possibility that we will see this rematch later in a different size. The UFC recently launched UFC BJJ and signed some of the best talent on the planet in the art of grab.

“It’s funny. Karate Combat actually offered me that match and I said I don’t know what is happening now, but there is a good chance that he could be a potential opponent,” Sterling said.
“I’m going to say that we probably don’t have to struggle now in case they actually offer the matchup. A week later they did that.”
