Alex Pereira cannot do his head for recent comments from UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall Wikkelen.
Pereira’s attention has been to reject his loss in March to Ankalaev to Magomed in March. “Patan” lost the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship via a unanimous decision, and he gets the chance to reclaim the gold on Saturday at UFC 320. A whole series of Pro MMA hunters have weighed the Rematch, including Aspinall.
During an interview with TNT SportsAspinall shared his conviction that Pereira was used for favorable matchups prior to his first meeting with Ankalaev. The heavyweight title holder admitted that he thinks Anakalev is a bad matchup for Pereira.
“Patan” said Aspinall’s comments on a MediaChrum and he has criticized the assessment (H/T Inappropriate).
“We are talking about the largest organization in the world,” Pereira told MMA Junkie and other media through an interpreter on Wednesday’s media day. “I am a man who comes from kickboxing. I had no grab experience. (I had) little experience in MMA. We are talking about the highest level of the sport. If you put the worst man in the UFC against me, I would be to a disadvantage (in MMA), so that is no sense.”
Pereira has plagued a potential relocation to the heavyweight division, but he has also shown interest to be confronted with the rising 205-pound competitor Carlos Ulberg. Of course, Pereira’s most important priority is to ensure that he does everything he can to beat Ankalaev to become a double UFC-light heavyweight champion. If Pereira can take revenge on Ankalaev, it would make him a triple UFC title holder, because he once held middleweight gold.
As far as Aspinall is concerned, he is focused on his own title fight. The undisputed heavyweight champion will meet Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 321 on October 25. Some are already wondering if Aspinall the winner of Alexander Volkov vs. Jilton Almeida will assume if he is successful against Gane. There is also the possibility of Jon Jones, who has hit the table for a place on the UFC White House card despite the hesitation of Dana White.
