Two-time UFC-light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira believes that he might have sustained a big injury.
Pereira fought through Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC 320 Main Event last Saturday. This was a rematch with the 205 pound gold at stake. In their first meeting, Ankalaev took the light heavyweight title through a unanimous decision. The Rematch took place much differently, because “Patan” Ankalaev stopped in the first round via TKO.
It was a dominant victory that lasted a little more than a minute, but Pereira may not have run out of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. During the UFC 320 press conference after the fightPereira shared with reporters that he thinks his foot was injured in the game.
“It’s my foot, and I’m pretty sure it’s broken,” said Pereira.
If Pereira would not have been able to complete Ankalaev in the opening frame, the narrative posting fight might have been drastically different if he indeed had a broken foot. Fortunately for ‘Patan’, the result is not questioning.
Apart from making his injury status, Pereira is looking forward to what the next step is. “Patan” has set its sights on the heavyweight division. He wants to be confronted specifically against UFC legend Jones on the UFC White House card in 2026.
During the press conference after the fight, UFC CEO Dana White spoke with reporters that although he is not fighting Pereira against heavyweight, he does not believe. The UFC boss believes that there are still feasible matchups for “Patan” on 205 pounds, but he can be influenced to give “Poatan” what he wants because of how much a businessman he has been.
The question is, would the UFC be willing to enable Pereira to fight Jones in the White House? White has made it clear that he does not believe that Jones can be trusted as large as the map of the White House in a place, but strange things have happened.
