Alex Palou has solidified his position as the face of Indycar when the Chip Ganassi Racing driver achieved his fourth NTT Indycar Series championship with third place in the 10 August Bitnile.com Grand Prix of Portland. It was Palou’s third Straight Indycar Series Championship and according to team owner Chip Ganassi the best is yet to come.

For Ganassi it was his 17one Indycar Series Championship, which connects him with the legendary Roger Penske for most championships in the history of Indycar.

For Will Power of Team Penske, he claimed the first Indycar victory of the season of the season and it is the 45one In the career of the legendary driver from Toowoomba, Australia.

Although the future of Palou remains rosy, Power would like to know if he has a future with Team Penske.

The Power contract is at the end of the 2025 season and so far he has no indications that he will get a new deal at the end of the season. If that happens, Power will have to find a ride with another Indycar team for the first time in 17 seasons.

Powerful career at Team Penske

Power came to Team Penske in 2009 as a “fill -in” driver, while Helio Castroneves was involved in a tax evasion in Miami, Florida. Castronves would keep his ride if he was acquitted of all charges and when the judge ruled in favor of Castroneves, the power had to turn the car to power.

But Penske held the power on board with a limited schedule in 2009 and has been full -time at Team Penske since 2010.

During that time, Power IndyCar Series won Championships in 2014 and 2022 and the Indianapolis 500 in 2018. He is Indycar’s polar winner of all time with 71, with Mario Andretti’s record of 67 being broken.

Since he comes to Team Penske, Power 43 has won races. His other two wins were in 2007 with Team Australia in Champ Car.

The 44-year-old power cherished in the joy to return to Victory Lane and the NTT Indycar series to remind that he thinks he is more than good enough to earn a new contract from Team Penske or another team in the Paddock.

“I won three races last year,” said Power. “If you are a team, if you wait for me to know if I am good enough, I don’t know what you think.”

Team Penske regards the young David Malukas of AJ Foyt Racing as a supplement to his team. Team Penske and AJ Foyt Racing share an Engineering Alliance and Malukas is considered a star in the making in Indycar, although he does not yet have to win Indycar race.

Alex Palou’s perfection

Power’s victory in itself would have made the Indycar race on Sunday in Portland Memorable. Combine that with another glorious moment for Palou turned out to be a great intersection of another victory for the old Pro and another championship for Indycar’s almost perfect driver.

What Palou did in 2025 is almost perfection. He is the 30one Different driver in NTT Indycar Series History that has won the Indianapolis 500 and the IndyCar Series Championship in the same season. Counting several winners, that happened 36 times.

“It was great,” said Palou. “This year was even more than magical with the (Indy) 500, with so many victories.

“Today we also wanted a victory. We gave everything we had on schedule. It didn’t work.”

Palou finished third behind Race winner Power and Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard, but drove with the same fierce tenacity that he shown throughout the season.

The championship was completed after the only other driver in battle, Pato O’Ward, then experienced electrical fault then rubbed a wire through the shield and shortly connected, so that the team had to change the direct injection box. O’Ward ended 25one10 laps down and Palou was already assured of the championship if he had ended the race.

But that is not the nature of Palou, because at the end he turned it into a thriller, and was even knocked off the track when he tried to pass Lundgaard for second place in the conclusive laps.

“We are here to win,” said Palou. “That’s why we are here. We have often said it. If we come here, although we have that big goal to win the championship, our priority is always to win races and win every weekend.

“We knew that we had everything we needed to win. I saw that I had two small chances to try to get Lundgaard. I thought I could have done the same thing. But it didn’t work.

“Yes, we gave everything. Although it could have been good to stay third, we wanted to win.”

Chip likes winners

There is a common sentence with Chip Ganassi Racing – “Chip loves winners.”

But Ganassi loves champions and the fourth Indycar title of Palou was historic because Ganassi is now the same as the Great Roger Penske for most Indycar series championships with 17.

“I couldn’t be more satisfied,” said Ganassi. “I clearly want to thank Alex, everyone who works for us. I want to thank everyone who has ever had a hand at one of those other 16 championships.

“Many people are no longer there or are no longer with us. They had fingerprints over these titles.

“But today we are celebrating the 17th. Could not be happier.”

Thanks to Alex Palou, Ganassi has plenty to celebrate.
