Carlos Alcaraz wasted little time gaining his 50th victory for the season on Tuesday at the Cincinnati Open.
The No. 2 in the PIF ATP rankings lit up Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4 in test conditions at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Alcaraz kept his cool in the Ohio Heat to achieve a Tour leading 50th victory of 2025 and its 13th consecutive Masters 1000 victory.

“I know he is a really powerful player,” said Alcaraz. “His shots are incredibly difficult to return. He also has a big serve. I know he doesn’t like to keep from left to right, so my plan was to let him run as much as possible.
“It was difficult because his ball flies and it comes very quickly, but I am just happy that I usually did it, tried to defend in a good way. I am just very happy to win the victory.”
Alcaraz and Medjedovic are both 22-year-old former champions at the next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF, and the opening phases of the Maiden Lexus ATP Head2head collision of the couple were fought hard. However, the momentum clearly shifted to the Spaniard, with Medjedovic that served on 3-3. The Serbian saved three breaking points, but the pressure told the fourth when he produced a double mistake to give his opponent a breakthrough.
At the end of the first set, Medjedovic received treatment for neck pain and played aggressively in the second set to try to shorten the rallies in the heat. Although he was able to reclaim a break for 3-3 and eventually exceeded Alcaraz with 25 winners up to 16, it turned out that the approach was not consistent to overcome the Spaniard.
The Serbian yielded consecutive drop shots to give Alcaraz a break for 4-3, and this time the Spaniard did not let his leadership slip away. He completed his 95 -minute victory, after he had converted three of the seven breakpoints he earned, according to Infosys ATP statistics.
After having canceled titles in Monte-Carlo and Rome in his current Masters 1000 winning series, Alcaraz takes on Luca Nardi in Cincinnati while haunting his eighth trophy at that level. The Italian happy loser Nardi led 16th seed Jakub Mensik 6-2, 2-1 when the Czech withdrew from the collision of the couple of the couple.
Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz have both qualified for the Nitto ATP final and will compete in an exciting battle for ATP-Einden Year end no. 1 presented by PIF during the remaining months of the year. Alcaraz currently has a 1500-point lead over Sinner in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin.
In other action, the ninth seed Andrey Rublev stays alive in the Alcaraz district of the draw after canceling a three -hour marathon of 30 minutes against the 21st seed Alexei Popyrin under the Cincinnati Sun. Rublev dominated 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5 to level his Lexus ATP Head2head series with Pableyrin on 2-2.
