Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is confronted with growing pressure from his back bench to build on at “moral momentum” and to recognize a Palestinian state.
The Albanian government has hardened its determination in recent days and has declared the intention to recognize the Palestinian state, but has recorded various preconditions, including Hamas’ demilitaries, before he commits.
Former cabinet minister Ed Husic has urged the government to reconsider “its approach” in view of the developing hunger crisis.
“It is understandable that we have tried to see the satisfaction of the most important conditions prior to that taking place, but moral momentum cannot be ignored,” he told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.

“That momentum is important at the moment, and it requires a reconsideration of our approach”.

Although Husic said he did not speak on behalf of his colleagues, he said there was a “deep feeling” about the back seat and in Caucus to recognize a Palestinian state.
Faced with questions about the timeline, Albanians repeated that his government would announce the move if the maximum impact would have and “the objective of establishing two states”.
“I have said for a long time, my entire political life, I said that I support two states, the right of Israel to exist within safe boundaries and the right of Palestinians to have realized their legitimate ambitions for their own state,” he said on Wednesday morning.

“That is my goal. Do not make an explanation, do not win a political point, but achieve that.”

Front bencher Anika Wells emphasized that the government would recognize a Palestinian state, and it was a matter of “when, not if”, as long as other conditions are met.
“It’s a matter of when it is not.
Labor MP Julian Hill also said: “[It’s] A matter of when, not or, to recognize the state of Palestine “.
“The government will determine its position on the basis of our conception of the national interest of Australia, along with like -minded countries around the world, and the prime minister is in dialogue.”
Liberal Senator James Paterson labeled the move “Premature” and “counterproductive” to reach a two -state solution, with the argument that Hamas had to be dismantled first.

“If the Australian government were to take a similar step, I would not agree because it would be a significant deviation from decades of two -fold foreign policy in this country,” he told ABC’s RN on Wednesday.

Greens Label Label The new statement of the government ‘Senseless’

The government has signed a new joint statement of 15 Foreign Minister and pronounced their “relentless commitment” to a two -state solution.

“We, Ministers of Foreign Affairs … express the willingness or positive consideration of our countries to recognize the state of Palestine, as an essential step in the direction of the two-state solution, and invite all countries that have not done this to participate in this call,” reads the statement signed by countries such as France, Canada and New Zealand.

Groenen spokesperson for Foreign Affairs David Shoebridge called the statement a “distraction” of meaningful progress in the field of the terrible situation in Gaza.

“This is an almost indisputable statement that does not seem to recognize Australia’s position near Palestine,” he told SBS News.
“Every pressure must be exerted on Israel to end the bombing, to end the killing, to put an end to the mass hunger of the people of Gaza and such statements, they will simply not bring us further and not closer to that ultimate goal of a free Palestine.”
