Ah Dinnae Ken, a mare on the rise

Judging by the way she won her R41-R60 race at Ascot Park today, six-year-old trotting mare Ah Dinnae Ken (Majestic son) seems like a mare on the rise.

From barrier three, trainer driver Craig Ferguson took her straight to the top. Nubliah Chamay tried to take the lead, but Ferguson was having none of it.

“That Nubliah Chamay is a pretty handy horse, so I didn’t want to give away any advantage,” said Ferguson.

Ah Dinnae Ken went to the line and won by two and three quarter lengths from Nubliah Chamay.

“When the other one dropped back, I got my own terms. We weren’t going overly fast, but it was pretty windy out there. She did pretty well.”

AH DINNAE KEN REPEAT

Ferguson had taken Ah Dinnae Ken to two training sessions prior to today’s run.

“I was confident in her fitness and ability, but with trotters on a windy day you never know. We thought if the manners were right she would run a good race. She did well last time and seems to have come back a little better this time.”

Ah Dinnae Ken is played by The Broke Boys Syndicate, which also races Massive Merc from the Ferguson stable.

“He’s spelling out. One of the boys has a big sheep farm near Wyndham. He was a big horse and needed time to fill out. We thought everything he did as a three-year-old was a bonus.”

Massive Merc won two of his ten starts last season, two for Ferguson and one for his previous trainer Alan Clark.
