The announcement of the 15-person Asia Cup 2025 team of India has lit a heated debate, with main selector Ajit Agarkar under fire for omitting SHREYAS IYER. Despite a fantastic IPL 2025 season – 604 runs with a success rate of 175, Iyer did not succeed in making both the main team and the reserves, where Dhruv Jurel was chosen as a third Wicketkeeper.

Agarkar defended the decision and stated:

“Shreyas Iyer. No fault of his. He just had to wait for his chance. You have to tell me, with whom you will replace him? It is just that you can choose 15 and at the moment he will have to wait for his chance,” he said at the press conference.

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth, however, strongly disagreed and burned the statement ‘absurd’. On his YouTube show he argued:

“In the current form, Shreyas Iyer is an automatic choice. Let’s be very clear. You have to watch recent matches; there is no point to judge a player for a year ago. He scored 600 points in the IPL against a strike rate of 175. Strike rate is the most important factor here. I cannot understand this statement.

Srikkanth also asked the absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had been in a good IPL and international form, while others retained their places with relatively modest songs, including Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson.

“You can meet Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and Sanju Samson, but there is no room for Shreyas Iyer. What is this explanation? I can’t understand the logic behind it. There is no logic at all. He added.
