Boston University has announced that Jay Pandolfo has signed a multi -year contract extension to remain head coach of the men’s hockey team.
In three seasons at the helm of the program, Pandolfo brought the Terriers to three straight frozen four, with BU ending as national second place last April. He led BU to his 32nd Beanpot title in February and was named Hockey East Coach of the Year in 2023 after he led the terriers to Hockey East Regular season and tournament championships during his first season. He is the only active head coach who wins an NCAA tournament match in each of the past three years.
No other active head coach won more competitions in his first three seasons than Pandewolfo, which has a record of 81-35-4.
“We are committed to the constant and continuing success of Boston University Men’s Ice Hockey, and that dedication starts to ensure that Jay stays at home as our head coach,” said Buk director of Athletics Drew Marrochello in a statement. “It’s hard to think of everyone who is proud to be a terrier than Jay. His passion and dedication are contagious, and he has not only set up a winning culture, but one that appreciates family and a love for the university. We are very happy that he will be our leader for the coming years.”
“I want to thank President Gilliam and Drew for not only trusting me to continue to lead this team, but also for their relentless support from our program, so that we can compete for a national championship every year,” added Pandolfo. “I said that choosing to play at Boston University was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and the same is what to come here to coach. It was an absolute honor to be the head coach at BU and I am enthusiastic about the future of our program.
“I also want associated head coach Joe Pereira, assistant coach Kim Brandvold and all our supporting employees who work tirelessly to help us stay one of the top programs in the country. Finally I want to thank all the players I have had to coach during my time here.
According to the guidance of Pandolfo, Terrier combined skaters for five all-America subjessions, including four selections of the first team. He coached 2024 Hobey Baker Award -winner Macklin Celebrini and accompanied the last two National Rookies of the Year in Celebrini and Cole Hutson. BU has talked 12 hockey East All-Stars in the last three seasons, leading the competition over the span. In addition, seven Terriers who has coached Pandolfo at BU made their NHL debut, including two of the three finalists for this year’s Calder Trophy in Celebrini and Lane Hutson.

Jay’s drive and passion for this program reflects the dedication of the university to promote a community of excellence.”
Before he took over as a head coach, Pandolfo spent the 2021-22 season as an associated head coach and BU helped to win the 2022 Beanpot.
Pandolfo was a striking for the terriers during his four -year collegial career, a total of 169 points (79 goals, 90 assists). He became second for the 1996 Hobey Baker Award after recording 67 points (38 goals, 29 assists) and was an instrumental part of the National Championship of the Terriers 1995 and helped the Terriers to four straight frozen four, two Beanpot titles and two hockey-East championships in Leiden.
Pandolfo, an AHCA First Team All-American from 1996, was a First-Ballot inducent in the BU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
